Wolves Sign Two from Notre Dame

The Florence Red Wolves have signed Notre Dame sophomores Will Hudgins and Steve Sabatino.  Hudgins, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound right-handed pitcher, has worked two scoreless innings for Notre Dame this season. He’s allowed one hit and struck out two.  In 2009, Hudgins was 2-0 with three saves and a 3.65 earned run average for Notre Dame. In 24 2/3 innings, he gave up 23 hits, walked 13 and struck out nine.

“Will is another arm that will come in this summer with the competitive experience we will need on the mound,” said RedWolves coach Russell Carter. “He will certainly be one of our stoppers at the back end of the game.”  Sabatino has yet to make an appearance for Notre Dame this season. In 2009, he made seven appearances, including five starts, and was 3-0 with a 3.86 ERA. In 32 2/3 innings, he gave up 29 hits, walked 21 and struck out 25.

“Steve will be a conference starter this year for Notre Dame and should fit the same role for the Red Wolves,” Carter said. “I am very excited to have a top flight, left-handed arm to fill one of the top spots in our rotation.”
