The Coastal Plain League announced Monday that Joe Sclafani of Morehead City was named the Rawlings Hitter of the Week, while Asheboro’s Joseph Hughes and Gastonia’s Robert Jeroszko were named the Rawlings Co-Pitchers of the Week for week five of action (June 28-July 4).

Sclafani, a sophomore at Dartmouth, batted .455 with 10 hits, four RBIs and six runs scored for the Marlins. He connected on two home runs and tallied a league-best 16 total bases, while also featuring a .727 slugging percentage and .500 on-base percentage. Furthermore, Sclafani was walked twice and stole a base on the week.

On the mound, Hughes, a sophomore from East Carolina, was dominant in his two appearances. The 6-3, 230-pound right-hander pitched a complete game shutout of Forest City on July 1, helping his Copperheads to a 5-0 win. On the week as a whole, Hughes scattered four hits in 10 innings of work, walked three and struck out 13 to earn a 1-0 record and perfect 0.00 ERA. Opposing batters hit just .121 against him.

Meanwhile, Jeroszko threw a complete game of his own for the Grizzlies. The junior from College of Charleston shut down Thomasville on July 3 to earn the win and finish with a perfect 0.00 ERA. In nine innings pitched, the 6-3, 200-pound right-hander gave up just two hits, walked two and struck out 11; while also holding the HiToms batters to a .069 average.
