Big offensive night for the RedWolves propel them to victory over Blowfish

The Florence RedWolves complied 14 hits and took advantage of seven Lexington County errors to defeat the Blowfish 12-4 on Tuesday night at the Lexington County Baseball Stadium.

Florence opened the scoring when Griffin Hulecki (Ball State) doubled to left field to score McLendon Sears (College of Charleston) and Patrick Causa (Mount Saint Mary's) to give the RedWolves a 2-0 lead. Hulecki and Matthew Honeycutt (Mars Hill) would score when Ben Peden (The Citadel) reached on an error to make it 4-0 RedWolves.

The RedWolves scoring in the first ended when Peden scored on an error by the Blowfish second basemen that allowed Joe Simone (Rider) to reach. When the inning closed, the RedWolves had batted around and lead 5-0.

That lead was more than enough for starter Michael Kuypers (Mount Saint Mary's) who tossed 5 innings allowing just three runs on nine hits, while striking out three to earn the victory.

After scoring one run in the second inning and a run in the fifth inning, the RedWolves would explode for more in the sixth inning when Peden tripled to score Causa, Honeycutt and Hulecki to make the score 10-3. Peden would score just two pitches later on wild pitch to make the score 11-3.

The RedWolves would finish their scoring outburst in the ninth when Causa would single home Gray McCurry (Mars Hill) to make it 12-4.

Seth Owens (Charleston Southern) and Joshua Plummer (Tennessee) would combine to throw the final four innings to finish off the win.

The RedWolves (2-1) will return home to Sparrow Stadium on Wednesday to take on the Savannah Bananas (3-1). It will be Krispy Kreme night with the first 500 fans getting a coupon for a free-dozen-doughnuts. Gates open at 6 pm and game starts at 7 pm
