RedWolves falter late in loss to Macon

Jimmy Farmer

The Florence RedWolves surrendered a late inning rally to fall to the Macon Bacon 3-2 on Thursday night at Luther Williams Field.

The RedWolves found themselves trailing early Thursday night after former RedWolf Riley King (Georgia) doubled home a run in the bottom of the first to give Macon a 1-0 lead.

But, Florence would respond in the fourth inning when Joe Simone (Rider) doubled home Griffin Hulecki (Ball State) to tie the game.

Later in the fourth, Grant Thompson (Spartanburg Methodist) would reach on a fielder's choice that would allow Simone to score and give the RedWolves the lead.

Florence starter Kris Kuhn (College of Charleston) settled down after first inning and looked like he would make those two runs stand up after tossing 5 strong innings allowing just the one run on one hit while striking out seven.

However, Kuhn would get a no decision after the Bacon rallied in the bottom of the sixth to score two runs off Jacob Grenus (Lincoln Memorial).

The Bacon scored the first of those runs when Cal Gentry (Georgia College) reached on an error that allowed Kenton Crawford (Southern Illinois) to score and tie the game. Macon would take the lead when Brandon Michie (Mercer) doubled home Gentry.

The RedWolves (2-3) will return home on Friday to take on the Savannah Bananas at Sparrow Stadium.

Friday night will be Feed Our Children Friday as brining in four can good will help the community and earn you a free ticket for a future home game. Friday night will also be the Pepsi game of the week and rally towel giveaway to the first 300 fans.
