RedWolves rally to beat Asheboro in extras

The RedWolves take advantage of a Copperheads miscue in the 10th inning to beat Asheboro 5-2 on Monday night at McCrary Park.

The RedWolves trailed 2-0 headed to the sixth inning, but rallied back when Ben Peden (The Citadel) scored when John Ricotta (Ball State) reached on a two-base error.

Patrick Causa (Mount Saint Mary's) would then pinch-hit and single to center field to score Ricotta and tie the game up at two.

That is how the score would stand until the top of the 10th, when Bryson Smith (Texas) and Chris (Botsoe), who started on first and second because of the new CPL extra inning rules, would come around to score when Cole Dubet's (Saint Louis) bunt was thrown into left field to give Florence the 4-2 lead.

Peden would single home Dubet to give the RedWolves the 5-2 lead.

Michael Kuypers (Mount Saint Mary's) would toss a perfect 10th to finish the game, and his fantastic night.

Kuypers would pick up the win in relief for Florence tossing 5 scoreless innings allowing one hit and striking out seven.

The RedWolves (4-4) will now return home to take on Lexington County in a double header. It will be a t-shirt giveaway night presented by Tidal Wave Auto Spa.

Tuesday will also be the debut of the new LocalMotive specialty jersey that the RedWolves will wear every time they take on the Blowfish.

The gates of Sparrow Stadium will open at 5 pm and the first game of the double header starts at 6 pm.
