RedWolves drop a tough one late to Macon

The Florence RedWolves cannot recover after surrendering a late rally to the Macon Bacon and fall 5-4 on Thursday night at Sparrow Stadium in Florence.


Florence found themselves finally breaking thorough and getting a lead against Macon in the bottom of the fifth inning when Greg Vaughn Jr. (LIU-Brooklyn) reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Patrick Causa (Mount Saint Mary's) to score to give Florence the 2-1 lead.


The RedWolves would add on in the bottom of the sixth when Chris Botsoe (Eastern Kentucky) singled home Bryson Smith (Texas) to push the lead to 3-1.


But the Bacon would rally back and take the lead by scoring twice in the top of the eight.


The RedWolves would tie the game again in the bottom of the eight when Joe Simone (Rider) score on a wild pitch.


Macon would finally take the lead for good in the top of the ninth when a Bacon runner scored on a throwing error by Florence catcher Brody Gibson (Oral Roberts).


Seth Owens (Charleston Southern) took the loss for the RedWolves after throwing an inning allowing one unearned run. 


Colby Lee (Francis Marion) started for the RedWolves and got the no-decision after firing six strong allowing just one run on two hits while striking out six.


The RedWolves (5-6) will hit the road to Savannah on Friday and Lexington County on Saturday before returning home on Monday to face Lexington County again.


Monday's home game will be Miracle League night and the first 300 fans will receive a RedWolves fan.
