RedWolves fly past Pilots in late rally

RedWolves fly past Pilots in late rally

Jimmy Farmer

The Florence RedWolves took advantage of a late Peninsula nosedive to defeat the Pilots 7-5 on Tuesday night at Sparrow Stadium.

The RedWolves battled back from a 4-0 deficit in the bottom of the second inning when Chris Botsoe (Eastern Kentucky) doubled home Brock Hallum (LIU-Brooklyn) and AJ Archambo (Oral Roberts) to make it 4-2.

After a Lenny Gonzalez (Francis Marion) home run in the third, the RedWolves tied it in the fourth when McLendon Sears (College of Charleston) singled home Archambo.

Peninsula took the lead again in the fifth, but Florence would answer with a Archambo sac fly.

The game would stay tied until the eighth when the Pilots pitchers walked five straight batters that combined with a throwing error by their third basemen and a wild pitch to allow the RedWolves to take the 7-5 lead.

Jacob Grenus (Lincoln Memorial) would finish out the game and pick up the victory after tossing 5 strong innings allowing just one run on four hits and striking out four.

The RedWolves will hit the road on Wednesday to take on the Lexington County Blowfish before returning home on Thursday to face the Savannah Bananas.

Thursday's home game is Margaretville Night as well as the PEPSI Game of the Week.
