RedWolves drop a heart-breaker to the Bananas

RedWolves drop a heart-breaker to the Bananas

James Farmer

The Florence RedWolves cannot make the Savannah Bananas pay for their eight errors and fall 7-6 on Thursday night at Sparrow Stadium.

The RedWolves came out of the gates hot, striking for three runs in bottom of the first when Ben Peden (The Citadel) doubled home Joe Simone (Rider) to start the scoring. Peden and Griffin Hulecki (Ball State) would come around to score when AJ Archambo (Oral Roberts) reached on an error.

The momentum of the game would then steadily shift toward the Bananas as they would score seven unanswered runs over the final five innings to take a 7-3 lead into the bottom of the ninth.

Florence would try to mount a comeback in the ninth scoring three runs on RBI singles by Peden, who would later score on an error, and Greg Vaughn (LIU-Brooklyn).

But the RedWolves could not complete the comeback as McLendon Sears (College of Charleston) would pop out to end the game with runners on first and second.

Jonathan Hughes (Georgia Tech) would start and get a no-decision for the RedWolves after tossing 7 innings allowing three runs on six hits and striking out seven.

Jamison Patterson (Charleston Southern) would take the loss after allowing three runs on one hit and one walk over an inning pitched.

The RedWolves will now hit the road to Macon on Friday for a double-header with the Bacon.
