RedWolves swept in double header

RedWolves swept in double header

The Florence RedWolves drop both ends of the double header with the Macon Bacon, losing the first game 3-2 and the second game 1-0 on Friday night at Luther Williams Field.

Game 2

Amos Willingham (Georgia Tech) was solid on the mound for the RedWolves in his start tossing six shutout innings allowing just six hits and striking out four.

But the offense squandered multiple opportunities grounding into three double plays and leaving six runners on base, and could not get any runs across the plate to back up Willingham, who took the no-decision.

The Bacon would finally break the scoreless tie in the bottom of the seventh when Lenny Gonzalez (Francis Marion) could not handle a ground ball with the bases loaded that allowed the winning run to cross the plate.

Joshua Plummer (Tennessee) would take the loss allowing one unearned run over a third of an inning pitched.

Game 1

The RedWolves wasted no time in the resumption of the game from July 1ststriking for the game tying run in the top of fourth on a Lenny Gonzalez (Francis Marion) home run.

The Bacon would answer with a run in the fifth to retake the lead at 2-1. But Florence would answer back with a tying run in the top of the sixth when Bryson Smith (Texas) singled home Griffin Hulecki (Ball State).

The Bacon would finally pull away in the bottom of the seventh by getting an RBI groundout to grab the 3-2 lead.

Jacob Grenus (Lincoln Memorial) would take the loss in relief of the July 1ststarter Colby Lee by allowing two runs on three hits while striking out five over four innings of work.
