RedWolves drop a wild extra inning game to the Bananas

The Florence RedWolves fall 7-6 to the Savannah Bananas on Monday night at Grayson Stadium. 

 

The RedWolves took an early lead when Kyle Gensler (Charlotte) singled home Bryson Smith (Texas) in the top of the second inning. 

 

Savannah would tie the game up in the bottom of the fourth to set the game into a 1-1 tie that would occupy the rest of the middle innings.

 

The Bananas finally break the 1-1 tie with a run in the bottom of the seventh to make it 2-1. 

 

But the RedWolves would answer in a big way in the top of the eighth, when McLendon Sears (College of Charleston) hit a grand slam to give Florence the 5-2 lead. 

 

The Bananas would answer with a home run of their own in the bottom half of the eighth and two runs in the ninth to tie the game at five and send it to extra innings. 

 

In the 10th, Ben Peden (The Citadel) would reach on a fielder's choice that would allow Gensler to come home and give the RedWolves the 6-5 lead.

 

But the Bananas would answer once more with two runs in the bottom of the 10th to win the game 7-6.

 

Kris Kuhn (College of Charleston) got the start and a no-decision for Florence tossing 7 innings allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out six. 

 

Colby Lee (Francis Marion) took the loss in extras allowing two unearned runs over an inning pitched. 

 

The RedWolves (18-21) will hit the road Tuesday to Lexington County to take on the Blowfish.
