The Florence RedWolves and first-year head coach Ryan Vruggink announce the addition of Virginia Military Institute's Sam Ewald and Ryan Huffman to the 2019 pitching staff.
Ewald is a sophomore right-handed pitcher. He is a native of Nokesville, Virginia. This season for the Keydetes, Ewald is 0-1 with a 4.22 ERA with eight strikeouts in 10.2 innings pitched.
"Sam is entering his sophomore year for the Keydets," Vruggink said. "Sam has seen time this year as a middle reliever and started a game. I can see him doing both roles for us this summer as well. Sam's season so far this year is highlighted by a very strong performance against Virginia where he threw three scoreless and hitless innings of relief."
Huffman is a freshman right-handed pitcher. He is a native of Aylett, Virginia. In high school, Huffman was listed as a top-1000 player in the nation according to Perfect Game.
"Ryan is an arm the coaches at VMI are very excited about for the future of their team," Vruggink said. "Ryan was a big recruit out of high school for their program and they believe down the line he will be a big arm for their team. I am excited to get to work with Ryan this summer."

Host Families Needed
Host families are an important and much-appreciated part of the RedWolves organization. Local families have opened their homes to our players each summer, and their generosity has helped us make the RedWolves a successful part of the Florence community.
Host families provide room and board to a RedWolves player for the entire season. All RedWolves players are college student-athletes and are not paid to play in the Coastal Plain League per NCAA rules.
Becoming a host family can be a rewarding experience. Often players and families share a friendship that last long after the season ends. Also, becoming a host family will earn you FREE SEASON TICKETS!
If you are interested in becoming a host family, please email RedWolves General Manager Barbara Osborne at email@example.com call the RedWolves office at 843-629-0700.
