RedWolves add pitching and lineup depth

RedWolves add pitching and lineup depth

The Florence RedWolves and first-year head coach Ryan Vruggink announce the addition of Seth Chestnut, AG Yowell and Alex Mills to the 2019 roster.

Chestnut is a sophomore right-handed pitcher from USC- Lancaster. He is a native of Barnwell. So far this season, Chestnut has appeared in 10 games going 6-2 with a 4.07 ERA and 60 strikeouts over 48.2 innings pitched.

"Seth started his career at Furman University before transferring to USC-Lancaster," Vruggink said. "Seth has had a big year for the Lancer baseball team. He has started most of the year for them and I can see him doing that for the RedWolves this summer as well as moving to a bullpen role. He is a versatile arm that I am very excited to have."

Yowell is a freshman right-handed pitcher from the University of Texas at San Antonio. He is a native of Dripping Springs, Texas. So far this season, Yowell has appeared in five games going 1-0 with a 10.50 ERA and five strikeouts over 6.0 innings pitched.

"AG is a big tall right-handed arm that is entering his first season at the collegiate level," Vruggink said. "I think that he is only going to get better as he continues to figure out his body and develops into it as his career continues. Hopefully getting to work with him this summer will help that process move along."

Mills is a junior first basemen and outfielder from USC Aiken. He is a native of Aiken. So far this season, Mills has started 36 games batting .260 with seven home runs and 26 RBIs.

"Alex is a junior and entering his first year as a member of the USC Aiken baseball team after transferring from Tallahassee Community College," Vruggink said. "Alex has been a main stay in the Pacer lineup this year and has had a pretty good season. Alex will bring some power and is a guy that will have a chance to lose the ball in any at bat."

Host Families Needed

Host families are an important and much-appreciated part of the RedWolves organization. Local families have opened their homes to our players each summer, and their generosity has helped us make the RedWolves a successful part of the Florence community.

Host families provide room and board to a RedWolves player for the entire season. All RedWolves players are college student-athletes and are not paid to play in the Coastal Plain League per NCAA rules.

Becoming a host family can be a rewarding experience. Often players and families share a friendship that last long after the season ends. Also, becoming a host family will earn you FREE SEASON TICKETS!

If you are interested in becoming a host family, please email RedWolves General Manager Barbara Osborne at or call the RedWolves office at 843-629-0700.
