The Florence RedWolves defeated the Fayetteville SwampDogs 3-1 on Saturday night at Sparrow Stadium.
After an emotional pregame ceremony to honor the Florence 7, the RedWolves (1-2) struck for two early runs in the first when Kenny Piper (Columbia College) tripled home Jake Swartz (Duke) before scoring on a JT Weber (Southern Illinois) sac fly.
The SwampDogs (2-1) would answer back with a run in the second with a groundout to short.
But that was all the SwampDogs offense would get as Seth Chestnut (USC-Lancaster) would shut them down the rest of the way in rout to picking up the win after tossing 6 innings allowing just the one run on six hits and striking out eight.
Connor Holden (Murray State) would pick up the save after tossing three innings allowing just one hit and striking out four.
The RedWolves offense was led by Lex Tuten (North Greenville) went 2 for 4. In total six RedWolves picked up hits in the win.
The RedWolves will have Sunday off before hitting the road to Asheboro on Monday to take on the Copperheads.
Florence will return to Sparrow Stadium on Tuesday June 4, 2019 to take on the Macon Bacon. Tuesday will be fan giveaway night.
