RedWolves pitching shuts down Bacon offense in win

The Florence RedWolves beat the Macon Bacon 5-2 on Tuesday night at Sparrow Stadium. 

 

The RedWolves (2-3) jump out to an early lead when Grey Epps (Southern Illinois) scored on a ground out by Miguel Soto (Arkansas Little Rock) in bottom of the second. 

 

The Bacon (3-2) would answer with two runs of their own in the top of fourth to take the 2-1 lead. But Florence would answer back with an RBI double by Epps to score Eldrige Figueroa (Arkansas Little Rock) to tie the game at two. Epps would score on a single by Soto to make the Florence lead 3-2.

 

The game would stay scoreless until the bottom of the seventh when Jake Swartz (Duke) doubled home Lex Tuten (North Grenville) and Joe Weisenseel (Ohio) to make it 5-2. 

 

The RedWolves would add an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth when JT Weber (Southern Illinois) scored on a Zach Durfee (Siena) ground out to make it 6-2. 

 

Soto would finish the game 3 for 4 with two RBIs.

 

Brenden Kennedy (Mount St. Mary's) got the start for the RedWolves and tossed four innings allowing two runs on four hits while striking out one. 

 

Culver Hughes got the win in relief going three innings allowing three hits while striking out one. 

 

Connor Holden (Murray State) picked up his second save of the summer tossing two scoreless innings while striking out four. 

 

The RedWolves will hit the road on Wednesday to take the Gastonia Grizzles in Gastonia before returning home on Thursday to take on the Lexington County Blowfish. 

 

Thursday will be KISS night with a pregame concert by tribute band UNMASKED. It will be Thirsty Thursday as well! Concert starts when the gates open at 6 pm with first pitch at 7 pm.
