The Florence RedWolves fell to the Gastonia Grizzlies 7-5 on Tuesday night at Sparrow Stadium.
The RedWolves (2-7) jumped out to an early lead when the first five batters of the game walked. Eldrige Figueroa (Arkansas Little Rock) scored on the JT Weber (Southern Illinois) walk to make it 1-0 while Michael Richardson (Ohio) and Grey Epps (Southern Illinois) scored on wild pitches to make it 3-0.
Austin Ulick (Southern Illinois) would cap off the scoring with single to score Weber and make it 4-0.
But Gastonia (6-2) would answer with six runs in the second inning to take the lead.
The game would remain scoreless until the bottom of the fifth when Figueroa would score on a Weber sac fly to make it 6-5 Gastonia.
But once again the Grizzlies would answer with a run in the top of the ninth to win 7-5.
Ulick had the lone hit for the Florence offense. The RedWolves defensively committed six errors in the game.
Seth Chestnut (USC-Lancaster) took the loss in the start going 1.2 innings allowing six runs (three earned) on four hits and three strikeouts.
The RedWolves will have Wednesday off before hitting the road on Thursday to take on the Asheboro Copperheads.
Florence will return home on Friday June 14, 2019 to take on the Martinsville Mustangs. It will be Help 4 Kids night and Autism Awareness night. The RedWolves players and coaches will be wearing specialty that will be auctioned off with the proceeds going to the All 4 Autism group.
