Big seventh inning propels RedWolves to win

Big seventh inning propels RedWolves to win

The Florence RedWolves defeated the Macon Bacon 5-1 on Saturday night at Luther Williams Field.

The RedWolves (4-8) and Bacon (8-6) held each other off the scoreboard for the first six innings.

Then in the seventh Florence would break through the pitcher's duel with a big inning. Grey Epps (Southern Illinois) started the scoring with a double that scored Joe Weisenseel (Ohio) and make it 1-0.

Then after Michael Richardson (Ohio) was hit by a pitch to load the bases, JT Weber (Southern Illinois) promptly unloaded the bases with a double to make it 4-0 RedWolves. Weber would come around to score on a Kenny Piper (Columbia College) single to complete the scoring and give the RedWolves a 5-0 lead.

Macon would score a run and load the bases in the bottom of the eighth, but Jared Lembcke (North Greenville) would come in and escape the jam.

Lembcke would then come back out and toss a scoreless ninth to finish the victory for the RedWolves. Lembcke on the night went 1.1 innings allowing no runs and no hits while striking out one.

Boyce Kobleur (Florence Darlington Tech) got the start for the RedWolves and tossed 5 scoreless innings allowing just two hits while striking out six.

Brett Manis (Ohio) picked up the win in relief for Florence tossing 2 scoreless innings allowing two hits and striking out three.

On the offensive side, the RedWolves got two hit performances by Piper and Weisenseel.
