RedWolves drop close contest late to Bacon

The Florence RedWolves fell to the Macon Bacon 5-2 on Wednesday night at Sparrow Stadium. 

 

The Bacon (11-6) took the lead in the top of the fifth on a solo home run. 

 

The RedWolves (6-10) would respond in the bottom half of the fifth when Joe Weisenseel (Ohio) scored when Michael Richardson (Ohio) reached on an error to tie the game. Richardson would later come around on a double by Kenny Piper (Columbia College) to take the 2-1 lead.

 

The Bacon would respond with one in the top of the seventh to tie the game at two. Macon would then score three in the ninth to take the lead for good at 5-2. 

 

Brenden Kennedy (Mount Saint Mary's) got the start for the RedWolves and the no-decision by tossing six innings allowing one run on six hits while striking out two. 

 

Nathan Bock (Southeast Missouri State) took the loss in relief. 

 

The RedWolves offense was led by Weisenseel, who went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. 

 

The RedWolves will travel to Macon tomorrow for a rematch with the Bacon. The RedWolves will return home on Friday to take on the Lexington County Blowfish. 

 

Friday will be Alzheimer's Awareness Night wear purple and come out and bid on the specialty jerseys the players and coaches will be wearing with all proceeds going to find the cure for Alzheimer's. 

 

Gates open 6 pm on Friday with first pitch at 7 pm.
