Richardson’s heroics lift RedWolves over Blowfish

The Florence RedWolves defeat the Lexington County Blowfish 13-11 in the bottom of the 10thon a walk off three run home run by Michael Richardson

 

The Blowfish (5-11) took the lead with a run in the top of the first. 

 

The RedWolves (7-11) would answer in the bottom of the first when Mitch Barrow (Indiana State) doubled home Eldrige Figueroa (Arkansas Little Rock) to tie the game. 

 

Florence's offense would then explode in the bottom of the third when they struck for four runs. Nathan Medrano (St. Edwards), Figueroa both scored on errors. Reid Hardwick (Charleston Southern) scored on a Barrow singled then Kenny Piper (Columbia College) later scored on an errant throw. 

 

But Lexington County would answer with a three run fourth to make it 5-4 RedWolves. 

 

Florence would answer right back with a run in the bottom of the fourth when Miguel Soto (Arkansas Little Rock) scored on a wild pitch to increase the lead to 6-4. 

 

Lexington would take the lead with a four run fifth, but Florence would answer right back with three in the bottom half of the inning. Richardson (Ohio) and Grey Epps (Southern Illinois) scored on single by Soto and Zach Durfee (Siena) scored on a wild pitch.  

 

Lexington would break the tie and take the lead with a run in the sixth and seventh. 

 

The RedWolves would answer right back in bottom of the seventh when Soto scored on a Hardwick sac fly. To tie the game at 10.

 

In the 10thinning, Lexington would take the lead with run.

 

But with two outs and two strikes, Richardson homered to score Figueroa and Hardwick to give the RedWolves the 13-11 win. 

 

Connor Holden (Murray State) got the win in relief allowing one unearned run on no hits and four strikeouts. 

 

The RedWolves will travel to Lexington County on Saturday before having Sunday off.

 

Florence will return home on Monday to take on the Blowfish. It will be faith and family night. 

 

Gates open 6 pm with first pitch at 7 pm.
