Bacon sweep RedWolves in double header

The Florence RedWolves were swept in the double header against the Macon Bacon dropping game one 5-3 and game two 5-1 on Thursday night at Luther Williams Field. 


The RedWolves (3-3) struck first in game one when JT Weber (Southern Illinois) singled home Eldrige Figueroa (Arkansas Little Rock) and Lex Tuten (North Greenville) to make it 2-0 in the top of the third. 


The Bacon (4-2) would answer back with three in the bottom of the third and one in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-2 lead. 


Florence would respond in the fifth when Figueroa scored on a Joe Weisenseel (Ohio) RBI groundout to cut the lead down to 4-3 Macon.


But the Bacon would launch a solo homer in the bottom of the fifth to answer back and increase their lead to 5-3 before turning the game over to their bullpen for two scoreless innings to close out the game. 


Parker White (Nicholls State) got the start and the loss for the RedWolves tossing 3.1 innings allowing four runs on six hits while striking out seven. 


In game two, Macon would be the ones to score first. The Bacon would strike for five in the second, one in the fourth and one in the fifth to take a commanding 5-0 lead into the seventh. 


The RedWolves would try to rally as Grey Epps (Southern Illinois) scored when Nathan Medrano (St. Edwards) reached on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the seventh, but 5-1 is as close as Florence would get. 


Culver Hughes (West Chester) got the start and the loss in game two going 1.1 innings allowing three runs (two earned) on one hit while striking out two. 


Combined between the two games, the RedWolves left 11 men on base. 


Weber lead the RedWolves offense going 3-for-6 with two RBI in both games.


The RedWolves will return home Friday July 12, 2019 to take on the Lexington County Blowfish. It will be throw it and win it night, so come out to the ballgame and try and win a beautiful rug.
