Walks and men left on base sink RedWolves against Blowfish

The Florence RedWolves fell 9-3 to the Lexington County Blowfish on Friday night at Sparrow Stadium.

 

The Blowfish (6-3) jumped out to an early lead by scoring two in the third and one in the fifth.

 

The RedWolves (3-4) finally responded with a run in the bottom of the sixth when Brandon McIlwain (Cal) scored when Grey Epps (Southern Illinois) reached on a fielder's choice to make it 3-1.

 

Lexington County would answer right back with three in the seventh.

 

Florence would once again respond in the bottom half when Eldrige Figueroa (Arkansas Little Rock) scored on a balk to make it 6-2 Blowfish.

 

RedWolves would cut the lead in half when Derek Neal (Louisburg College) singled home Miguel Soto (Arkansas Little Rock) to make it 6-3.

 

But that is as close as the game would get as the Blowfish would add three in the ninth to win 9-3.

 

Patrick Orlando (FMU) took the loss in the start tossing four innings allowing two runs while striking out one.

 

Overall the RedWolves pitchers combined to walk 10 Blowfish batters.

 

Florence offensively left 13 men on base.

 

The RedWolves will travel on Saturday to Lexington County to take on the Blowfish.

 

Florence will be back on Sparrow Stadium on Monday for a double header with the Savannah Bananas. First game will be a continuation of the July 5th game that got rained out in Savannah in the top of the third. The July 5th game will be finished in the entire 9 innings.

 

Gates open at 5 pm, continuation starts at 6 pm with a 30-minute break in-between before a seven-inning game.
