RedWolves sweep double header

The Florence RedWolves sweep the Lexington County Blowfish in a double header winning game one 3-2 and taking game two 9-0 on Monday night at Lexington County Baseball Stadium.

 

In game one, the RedWolves took the lead first inning when Brandon McIlwain (California) reached on a fielder's choice that scored Grey Epps (Southern Illinois). 

 

The Blowfish would tie the game with a run in the third and take the lead with a run in the fourth. 

 

Florence would retake the lead in the top of the sixth when JT Weber (Southern Illinois) singled home McIlwain before later coming home on an error scoring. 

 

Brett Manis (Ohio) picked up the save after tossing a scoreless 1.2 to finish off Lexington County. 

 

Nathan Bock (Southeast Missouri State) picked up the win tossing a scoreless 1.1. 

 

Epps and Weber each had two hits in the game one win. 

 

In game two, the RedWolves took advantage of six walks in the first two innings to scratch across 8 runs. 

 

The scoring outburst was highlighted by McIlwain's two run single in the second inning and Mitch Barrow's (Indiana State) single in the second. 

 

Florence would add on one more run in the fourth when Weber singled home McIlwain to make it 9-0. 

 

AG Yowell (UTSA) would pick up the win in relief going 3.0 innings allowing just two hits while striking out four. 

 

Brady Greene (UAB), Yowell and Duncan Callahan (North Greenville) combined to toss the first shutout of the year for the RedWolves only allowing five hits while striking out nine. 

 

McIlwain and Weber each had two hits in the game two win. 

 

The RedWolves will have Tuesday off before returning to the road on Wednesday to take on the Macon Bacon down in Macon. 

 

Florence will return to Sparrow Stadium on Thursday for a double header with the Bacon. It will be Christmas in July night. 

 

Gates will open at 5 pm with first pitch of game one at 6 pm.
