RedWolves cannot complete comeback

RedWolves cannot complete comeback

The Florence RedWolves fell to the Savannah Bananas 9-5 on Saturday night at Grayson Stadium.

The RedWolves struck first in the top of the first inning when Brandon McIlwain (California) launched a solo home run.

But the Bananas would answer with one in the first, three in the second, one in the fourth and four in the fifth to make it 9-1.

Florence would try to start a late rally. Zach Durfee (Siena) would score on a wild pitch before Lex Tuten (North Greenville) scored on an error to cut the lead down to 9-3 in the seventh. In the eighth, Darius Noble (Francis Marion) doubled home Durfee and Lenny Gonzalez (Francis Marion) to cut the lead down to 9-5.

But that is as close as Florence would get in the loss.

Isaac Rodgers (Francis Marion) got the start and the loss for the RedWolves allowing four runs over three innings.

With the loss the RedWolves fall 2.5 games behind 2ndhalf South Division leader Savannah.

After an off day on Sunday, the RedWolves and Bananas will meet again on Monday night, this time in Florence.

It will be Yankees vs Red Sox night, so come out and wear your favorite MLB team's shirt.

Gates open at 6 pm with first pitch at 7 pm.
